Not a career politician.

Meet Amjad Jilani.

I am not a career politician, and I do not come from the political establishment. I am a Mississauga resident who is tired of watching our city get run by out-of-touch officials who treat taxpayers like an endless bank account.

I am running for Mayor because Mississauga needs a leader who lives in the exact same reality as everyday residents. We deserve transparent governance, safe neighborhoods, and a city hall that prioritizes real solutions over backroom developer deals and continuous tax hikes.

Who I am.

I am living the exact same struggle as you.

Professionally, I built my career in sales and marketing, working with some of the largest businesses in Mississauga and Toronto. I know how to manage budgets, negotiate, and drive results. But honestly, that is not what qualifies me to be Mayor.

What qualifies me is that I am living the exact same struggle as you. I am stuck in the same gridlocked 403 traffic, feeling the same financial squeeze, and watching my taxes go up while city services get worse. I am just a regular resident who finally decided that if the career politicians will not fix our city, we have to do it ourselves.

Direct answers to the big questions.

“Why did you choose to run for Mayor?”

I chose to run because waiting for the career politicians to fix the problems they created is a losing game.

When City Council votes 10-0 behind closed doors to override our Official Plan for massive developer projects, passes a 5.21% property tax hike, and lets crime and auto theft surge across our neighborhoods, doing nothing is no longer an option. I am running to give the silent majority of Mississauga a genuine choice on the ballot, not just another choice between the lesser of two evils.

“What experience do you actually have?”

I have zero experience sitting in council chambers passing tax increases, delaying transit projects, or approving secret settlements.

If “experience” means decades of climbing the political ladder while public services decline, I am proud to say I do not have it. My experience is real-world experience: living in Mississauga, feeling the financial pressure of rising costs, navigating our gridlocked streets, and seeing how municipal decisions impact actual families. I bring practical business sense, accountability, and the drive to put residents first.

“Do you actually have a chance to win against establishment candidates?”

Yes, absolutely. Here is the reality of Mississauga elections:

Mississauga, 2024

0votes won the mayoralty
0ballots cast in total
0%of eligible voters stayed home
0votes guarantees victory in a fractured race

In 2024, the mayoralty was won with roughly 43,000 votes out of nearly 140,000 cast, while over 74% of eligible voters stayed home because they felt ignored. In a fractured race where four career politicians are splitting the same establishment base, hitting 40,000 votes guarantees victory.

We do not need the endorsement of insider political networks. We need 40,000 everyday residents, youth, first-time voters, and frustrated taxpayers to stand up and vote for real change.

Let’s take our city back.

This election is not about political parties or career resumes. It is about whether Mississauga will keep repeating the same mistakes or finally choose fresh, accountable leadership.
