Privacy Policy

This website is operated by the campaign to elect Amjad Jilani as Mayor of Mississauga (“the campaign,” “we,” “us”). We take your privacy seriously. This page explains what information we collect through this site, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Email sign-ups: your email address, and the date and time you signed up.
- Join form (the QR code on our cards): your name, an email address and/or phone number, which of those you’d prefer we use, whether you intend to vote, whether you want to volunteer, your postal code if you give one, and a short code identifying which batch of cards you scanned.
- Volunteer form: your name, email address, phone number (optional), Mississauga postal code, how you’d like to help, and anything you write in the message field.
- Donation form: your legal name, address, email, phone number (optional), and contribution amount — required by the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. Card details go directly to our payment processor (Stripe) and never touch our server.
- Technical basics: like most websites, our server keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and troubleshooting.
What we use it for
- Sending you campaign updates you asked for, by email or text message, on the channel you told us to use.
- Reminding you to vote in the lead-up to and on election day, October 26, 2026.
- Coordinating volunteer activities you signed up for.
- Responding when you contact us.
- Keeping the site secure (rate limiting, abuse prevention).
We use your information only for the campaign. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone, and we do not share it with other campaigns, parties, or commercial mailing lists.
Who can see it
Access is limited to the candidate and the campaign’s site administrator. If we use a service provider to deliver email updates, your email address is shared with that provider only for that purpose and under their privacy safeguards.
Where it lives and for how long
Sign-up data is stored on a server controlled by the campaign, hosted in Canada. We keep it for the duration of the 2026 campaign period and any record-keeping required under Ontario’s Municipal Elections Act, 1996, after which it is deleted.
Advertising and analytics
This site does not use advertising pixels, third-party analytics services, or tracking cookies. Nothing about your visit is sent to Google, Meta, or anyone else.
We do count visits ourselves, on our own server, so the campaign knows which pages people find useful and whether the printed material is working. When you open a page we record the page address, the site that linked you here (if any), whether you are on a phone or a computer, the country your connection is in, and whether you played a video, started a form, or tapped a link. We do not use cookies for this, and we do not store your IP address: it is combined with a random value that is thrown away and replaced every day, and turned into a short code that cannot be reversed. Once the day ends, there is no way to connect that code to you, or to the code recorded for you the day before. Page addresses are stored without anything that follows a question mark, so confirmation and unsubscribe links never appear in these records.
These counts are kept for up to 400 days and are visible only to the candidate and the campaign’s site administrator. If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” signal, we record nothing at all.
If the campaign later runs ads through platforms such as Meta or Google and adds their measurement tools to this site, we will update this policy to say exactly what is collected and by whom before those tools go live.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe: every campaign email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing is immediate.
- Access or deletion: you can ask us at any time what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it entirely.
